iNFO : Windows 8 Highlights for Enterprise Organizations

Windows 8 was not built only for end users. Granted, it does come with a variety of enhancements meant to provide all people with a better experience than previous Windows releases, but there’s more to it.

In addition to the features that will make all users happy, Windows 8 also comes with capabilities aimed specifically at businesses.

Today, Microsoft detailed some of these features at CeBIT in Germany, explaining why enterprise users will have a lot to gain when choosing Windows 8 over rival solutions.

For starters, the company notes that Windows 8 is capable of delivering a great user experience to everybody. It provides both a personalized experience for regular customers, as well as the level of security and the management capabilities that companies have grown to trust.

Among these features, we can count the Metro Start Screen and the dedicated applications available for the platform, along with support for both multi-touch and for the traditional keyboard and mouse input means.

Additionally, applications can now take advantage of an immersive full screen, so that people can easily interact with the software.

Windows 8 was built for business tablets as well, Microsoft notes. It comes with touch optimizations and features powerful, connected Metro style applications.

Not to mention that it offers support for Windows 7 productivity and line-of-business applications, offering IT professionals the possibility to leverage existing infrastructures to manage devices based on the new OS.

Windows 8 also comes with a variety of features designed for people who are mostly mobile, enabling them to stay connected and productive at all times.

“Windows 8 includes Windows To Go — the ability to provide users with a full corporate copy of Windows 8 (along with users’ business apps, data and settings) on a USB storage device,” Microsoft explains.

“Windows 8 also includes improvements to DirectAccess and built-in mobile broadband features that natively support 3G and 4G telecommunication. And Windows 8 can stay always connected with Metro style apps.”

The platform also comes with a series of security features that include Trusted Boot and improved BitLocker drive encryption, along with AppLocker and claim-based access control, thus offering increased security over corporate data.

The business features list of Windows 8 also includes virtualization advancements, high-definition graphics, support for touch and support for USB devices on a local PC.

“In addition, Windows 8 includes Microsoft Hyper-V, a high-performing client virtualization technology that enables enterprise developers to develop, debug and test multiple configurations of apps and operating systems on a single PC instead of each configuration requiring its own PC,” Microsoft notes.

Windows 8 also arrives with a series of capabilities that enable easy integration into most existing client management infrastructures. The Windows PowerShell automation that Windows 8 comes with makes management tasks easier than before.
